Honoring Brian Booth
The Oregon Parks and Recreation Commission has passed a resolution honoring Brian Booth, the first chairperson of the original commission (1990-97).
WHEREAS, the March 7, 2012 passing of Brian Booth, the first Chairperson of the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Commission and founding trustee of the Oregon State Parks Trust, marks the loss of a dedicated Oregon humanitarian;
WHEREAS, Brian Booth’s legendary contribution to the arts in Oregon led to the founding of Oregon Cultural Heritage Commission, and to the success of countless foundations, boards and commissions, demonstrating a love for all the special places in Oregon;
WHEREAS, Brian Booth chaired the first and original State Parks and Recreation Commission from 1990-1997, dedicating his tenure to strong policymaking, leadership and guidance to a new public agency;
WHEREAS, in his belief that a strong parks system is not only good public policy, but also a treasure to be preserved, Brian Booth worked tenaciously to bring about the 1998 ballot measure that succeeded in dedicating a portion of Oregon Lottery proceeds to state parks;
BE IT RESOLVED
THAT the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Commission is honored to recognize and express its gratitude for Brian Booth’s remarkable gift of public service to the citizens of Oregon and to the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.
