Dexter is one of three Oregon lakes included in the nationwide “Wanna Go Fishing for Millions” contest sponsored by Cabela's, Outdoor Channel and 19 state fish and wildlife agencies. ODFW says Crane Prairie Reservoir in Deschutes County & Blue River Reservoir northeast of Springfield are in the contest too. Click the photo to learn more. Dexter State Recreation Site has a boat launch and 18-hole disc golf course.

What days and hours are the Beaver Creek kayak tours available? Three of us from Salem are interested in the tour, preferably on either Aug. 14 or 15. What time would we need to arrive there?
After all the hot weather, a kayak tour on the coast seems like an excellent way to cool off. The Hospitality Center at South Beach State Park handles all the tour details and reservations. Because tour dates and time vary, staff at the center are best able to answer your questions and book your spots. Give them a call at 541-867-6590.
Very excited about the chance to paddle these wetlands! This park looks beautiful and will be a great addition to recreation options on the coast.
Grea blog, appreciate the info.
What an awesome deal. Hope to take advantage of it.
Very glad to see another opportunity to paddle around and see more of nature. I am so glad I live in Oregon where opportunities abound.
This park looks wonderful! I would love to paddle the waterways with a chance to see wildlife! Can I bring my own kayak? I love mine. Thanks!
If you win the contest, you can check with the park ranger about bringing your own kayak. You can also paddle Beaver Creek in your kayak if you don’t win. Launch at the Ona Beach day-use area on the east side of U.S. 101 and take off.
The park looks very nice. Does the $15 include the park entrance fee? Also, I may be interested in bringing a cub-scout group to the site. Are there group discounts available?
Thanks!!
Beaver Creek is a FREE day-use park. The South Beach State Park Hospitality Center staff can best answer questions about group tours and help you arrange the trip. The telephone number is 541-867-6590. We’re also forwarding your question to the park ranger that guides the tours.
Thanks for the new park! Hope to see it in person soon!
Can’t wait to try this out – another place to use our kayaks. Oregon State Parks are THE best. Thanks!
Beaver Creek looks like a great new site! Can’t wait to spend a day paddling this part of the Oregon coast!
Love Oregon State Parks!
Awesome! Will definitely have to check out the new paddle!
This sounds like an awesome excursion! Would love to go on this tour with my wife.
This looks great!!!
Looks like a great place to get away to… can’t wait.
Love Oregon waterways. Does anyone know what kind of kayak is pictured on this previous page http://oregonstateparks.wordpress.com/2010/09/15/win-a-beaver-creek-guided-kayak-tour/ ? It’s red and carries 2 people. I’m looking for a tandem slow-water kayak. Thanks for a great website.
Park Ranger Mike Rivers reports that the kayak in the photo is a Wilderness Systems Pamlico 135T Tandem Kayak.
Looking forward to checking out this new park
I’m so excited I found this site! Can’t wait to experience this beautiful wetland!
The park looks great. I’ll have to check it out next time i’m in the area.
I can’t wait to explore this fantastic new Natural Area!
Gorgeous!
These pictures are gorgeous! Can’t wait to see it in person.
I LOVE Oregon State Parks!!! Would LOVE to win this!! Our family’s best memories have all involved Oregon State Parks!
this would be fun even in the winter, with the right gear on!!
We are looking forward to visiting! We moved here from Hawaii and really miss kayaking. This place looks amazing. Are dogs on a leash allowed in the park?
Thank you for continuing to add additional opportunities to the excellent park system. Great Job!!
Wow! The beauty of the OR coast never disappoints!
I love Oregon State Parks and can’t wait to check out Beaver Creek!!
I’ll be there
I wanna win!
This place looks fabulous – I’d love to check it out, whether I win the drawing or not!
Another recreational resource that offers natural surroundings as a “classroom” for understanding ourselves in the world. How very Oregon, and congratulations to all those who helped make this happen!
And a suggestion from a relatively new subscriber of the Your Parks “Go Guide:” as parts of the system are featured in the digests (whether about new or old parks or resources), a small map of the locale would be helpful on the opening page, so folks who might not have heard of that site could get a basic orientation.
I’m excited about the new opportunity! Keep those parks growing!
Good job opening new and beautiful parks in Oregon! We love ‘em. Keep them coming.
Can’t wait to check out this gorgeous nature paradise!
Is the new Beaver Creek Natural Area represented by a GIS layer? If so, where can I download a copy of the shapefile?
We have water, trail and topo layers, but they may not be finalized yet. We will e-mail you when they are complete.
Looking forward to visiting the park!
Very excited to check this new park out! Thank you.
Looks like a great place cant wait to check it out this weekend!
It is good to have a few things that are affordable, healthy, and fun in life. Thanks for opening this new area!
Been trying to find the new Paddle beaver creek app. Searched iTunes, but got nothing. I just read about the app this morning.
The Paddle Beaver Creek iPhone app is available at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/paddle-beaver-creek/id394593350?mt=8 .
To Sandy, from last September, yes, dogs are allowed in the park. Many people take them in their boats, but we leave ours at home because she would disturb the peace!
This is not a new paddling area; we have been on this creek for 15 years. I hope that people will use the opportunity responsibly and have a wonderful time. It can be paddled year-round. There is somewhat more current in late winter and early spring, and summer afternoon winds can be strong, but it is generally an easy paddle.
