Training space still available for whale watching volunteers (2010)

Past and future “Whale Watching Spoken Here” volunteers will have their annual chance to learn the latest about whales from an internationally known expert Nov. 27-28 at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport.

Dr. Bruce Mate will lead the Saturday training and talk about the basics of Gray whale biology and migrations. The Sunday session will focus on how you can help visitors see the whales from 26 “Whale Watching Spoken Here” sites along the coast during the winter and spring whale watching weeks.

Training graduates are welcome to help at the sites from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. during the winter watch week, Dec. 26, 2010-Jan. 1, 2011.

For more information, go to the 2010-11 Call for Volunteers (training agenda & registration).
