Eastern Oregon campgrounds open April 15 (2011)
More campgrounds open April 22 and May 1
Beginning April 15 you can stay in the Blue Mountains of northeastern Oregon at parks that cater to tent camping. All of these riverside parks, which also are open to small self-contained RVs, have sites available for $5 (per night) through April 30 (the end of Discovery Season). The rate is only $9 May-October.
- Catherine Creek State Park, eight miles southeast of Union;

- Red Bridge State Wayside, also on the Grande Ronde River, 16 miles southeast of La Grande;
- Ukiah-Dale Forest, on Camas Creek, three miles southwest of Ukiah.
Lake Owyhee State Park McCormack and Indian Creek campgrounds in southeastern Oregon also open April 15. Discovery Season rates apply through April 30. All 56 of the park’s RV sites are available first-come, first-served until May 1. The park’s two tepees are reservable beginning May 1.
Camping starts May 1 at North Santiam State Recreation Area.
Two coastal park campgrounds usually open all year—Humbug Mountain State Park and Devil’s Lake State Recreation Area remain closed until May 1 for campground upgrades. The Humbug day-use area and trails remain open. Two camp loops at Farewell Bend are closed for electrical upgrades through the end of April. The Antelope loop is open.
Camping remains on hold until May 14 at Cascadia State Park, another tent camping favorite on the South Santiam River east of Sweet Home.
The Cascara camping season at Fall Creek State Recreation Area is postponed indefinitely while storm damages are repaired. The park’s Fisherman’s Point group camp opens May 1.
