Ride or hike the McKenzie Pass Scenic Bikeway before it opens to vehicles (2013)

Bicyclists and hikers have the Old McKenzie Pass Highway (Oregon 242) all to themselves until about June 14. Closed during the winter by deep snow,  the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has cleared one lane of the highway, which crosses the Cascades between Belknap Springs and Sisters. The road remains closed to vehicles while crews and the SUN remove snow from the other lane.
