Washington, D.C. has its National Cherry Blossom Festival and Japan is renowned for cherry blossom viewing, but Salem, Ore. has a mini cherry blossom at State Capitol State Park.

Park Manager Bryan Nielsen says the sunny, warm weather should spur the flowering cherry trees into bloom by the end of this week. Who knows how long the bloom will last but the three fountains on the grounds will bubble for the occasion, and will remain on until the pink blossoms fade and fall. They are Waite Fountain, west of the capitol building in Wilson Park; the Wall of Water that borders Court Street across from the main capitol entrance; and Capitol Fountain, on Center Street at the north end of the mall.
